How can teaching at TUM be made more understandable, accessible, and inclusive? With the project TIDE@TUM – Teaching for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, the TUM Gender Equality Office, together with TUM ProLehre, is developing a digital teaching toolbox designed to support instructors in addressing exactly this challenge in a practical way.
At the core of the project is a digital Inclusive Teaching Toolkit that provides concrete guidance for teaching: from guidelines for creating clear assignments and examinations to recommendations for inclusive and gender-sensitive language, as well as good-practice examples from various TUM Schools. The toolbox will be complemented by compact micro-learning modules that convey key aspects of inclusive teaching design and can eventually be integrated into existing professional development programs.
A special feature of TIDE@TUM is the systematic integration of the student perspective. Through a digital feedback format, students will be able to anonymously provide feedback on barriers to understanding in teaching materials, such as unclear assignments or particularly effective examples. This feedback will directly inform the further development of the toolbox and enable an evidence-based, needs-oriented design of its content.
All materials will be provided as Open Educational Resources, ensuring their long-term availability and reusability. The goal is to support instructors across disciplines in developing accessible teaching formats while sustainably improving learning conditions for an increasingly diverse student body.
The project is funded by the TUM Future Learning Fund 2026 for a twelve-month period, starting October 2026.
